about the artist

Me

Terry lives in Kent with her husband, son, 2 Persian cats and 1dog. For a glimpse into her life and creative processes please visit her Blog, or follow her on Twitter. She would love to 'meet' you!

Terry loves colour and finds creating one off pieces of affordable, wearable art very enjoyable. She has been involved in creative arts for most of her adult life but the last 4 years have been dedicated to her love of glass. Terry is inspired by the dramatic beauty and diverse colour palette of Africa where she grew up. Wildlife and the natural world are among her favourite sources of inspiration.

Terry also enjoys painting and collage and combines these skills which fused glass and canvas works. Each one individual, made to order items.

About the glass:
Stunning, dramatic, eye-catching and dazzling. Dichroic means two colours. This glass appears to be different colours when viewed from different angles or in varying degrees of illumination. It can split a beam of light into two with differing wavelengths. It has thin layers of chromium, silicon, titanium, aluminium and zirconium depending on the colour.
Hard to describe and almost as difficult to photograph its stunning beauty.

About the process: Each piece of glass is hand cut and prepared, kiln fired up to 4 times and then fire polished. The glass is properly annealed to remove stress and the risk of thermal shock. Ever had glass item that just suddenly cracked for no apparent reason? That is thermal shock.

The end result is a unique piece of art that is durable and shatter resistant.
Terry gives you her personal assurance that items may be similar in design but nothing is mass produced and all pieces are crafted personally. The dichroic glass pieces are one of a kind as the process of fusing and fire polishing in the kiln ensures originality.

The hand crafted industry is experiencing something of a revival. There have always been savvy people who find original items that everyone admires but with concerns like carbon emissions and climate change people are looking for locally produced goods.

The internet is key in giving artists a chance to showcase their skills and individuality without you, the customer, having to pay gallery prices.
